ICELAND_kirkjufell_winter_grundarfjordur.jpg
Carved during the last Ice Age, the world-renowned Kirkjufell mountain (Church Mountain) located in the Snæfellsnes peninsula, near the small town of Grundarfjörður in Western Iceland. The 463m tall Kirkjufell is one of the most photographed landmarks in Iceland and hiking to the top is a treacherous adventure. A few hundred meters from the reverse side of the mountain is Kvíabryggja, a prison without bars of fences, where inmates carry out farming duties.
