The Adumu, or jumping dance, is one of the most recognized traditions of Kenya's Maasai tribesmen. The dance is accompanied by polyphonic rhythmic vocals performed by men and women, in a call and response fashion. Lyrics are often repetitions of vocal melodies with no precise meaning, lullabies, flirting songs or vocal scales. During the adumu, young men will jump as high as they can and the singing's pitch will rise and fall to follow their movements.
